Idea from me:
Artistic inspiration is contagious and exponential. I also believe it can come full-circle. While you sit frustrated with your creator’s block - someone else’s piece of art may come around to inspire your next idea. Then your idea may influence others to create art which may influence others to create, and so on.
Share your creation with the world so the ongoing inspiration can benefit others and eventually come all the way back around to you.
Quote from another:
Author Elizabeth Gilbert on quitting your current project to work on a new idea:
“Maybe you’ve had this experience: you start working on this thing and a couple weeks into it… another idea comes. And that idea seems more interesting than the one you’ve already invested some time into…Then you go and start that one - and then another idea comes…
I always say, ‘Okay well I give you permission to quit working on that first project — but only if you have a proven track record of ever being able to finish a thing.’”
Prompt for you:
Follow the trail of inspiration on a piece of art you love or a creator you love. Thru interviews with the creator, find out what art/creators inspired them to create that piece of work. Then continue working you way back with each piece.
Ex. I am inspired by Nick Hornby —> who is inspired by Anne Tyler —> who is inspired by Eudora Welty, etc.
